One of the most important Slovene scientists is the physicist Jožef Stefan, the only Slovene who discovered a fundamental physical law of nature - the law of thermal radiation of a black body. The Stefan constant or Stefan-Boltzmann constant is named after him. The law was discovered in 1879 by the Slovene physicist Jožef Stefan (1835–1893), and in 1884 it was theoretically carried out by his student, the Austrian physicist Ludwig Edward Boltzmann (1844–1906) within the framework of thermodynamics.
