Invention and engineering
Josef Ressel, was a versatile engineer specializing in forestry, agronomy, chemistry, metallurgy, and military engineering. He received patents for many of his inventions, including pneumatic mail, and is best known for the invention of the propeller, which changed the mode of navigation. Czechs (by mother), Germans (by father), Austrians (he lived in the Habsburg monarchy), Italians (activities in Trieste and Venice), Croats (activities in Istria) and Slovenes all consider him to be one of them, but the majority of his life and inventive design, Ressel had spent on our soil.
